Lot 324 2010 Atlas Peak, Napa Valley Chardonnay

Lot 324
2010 Atlas Peak Chardonnay

91 pts: Wilfred Wong, BevMo; Orange blossom, lemon curd, and toasted almond aromatics underpinned with spicy pear and apple aromas.
  • Denver International Wine Competition Gold Winner
The nose is layered with orange blossom, lemon curd, and toasted almond aromatics underpinned with spicy pear and apple aromas. The palate is unctuous with creamy oak but lifted and complex with ripe pear, pretty minerality and honeysuckle notes. There is tremendous length to this wine despite its youth, indicating there is more here to come.

Style: Light, Crisp

Flavors: Almond, Apple, Lemon, Pear

Cam Confidential
Lot 324 is a continuation of our Atlas Peak Chardonnay program in terms of “fruit sourcing”, but a change in direction when it comes to “wine style”. With the addition of barrel fermentations, partial malolactic fermentation (about 30% of the wine went through malo) and an increase in new French and Hungarian cooperage (to 30%), the resulting style is bolder and richer while still respecting the beautiful floral aromatics and ripe tree fruit.

I should preface this with the fact that I don't normally enjoy white wines. To me, most either tend toward being too sweet or if they aren't, they have petrol undertones and I've never been a fan.

Approx. two weeks ago, I introduced my husband to this label. Since then, he's been trying everything that I've previously ordered from CH. Then when he went to the market last week, he came back with a bottle this.

We have such different likes in wine. I was going to pass. But his pressing "just one taste" evolved into having to share his bottle with me. (Since then, he's gone back for more.) I loved this wine and am very excited about finding a style of white that suits my palette. I'll be looking at future descriptors here to see if anything similar is available.

Thumbs up

I liked this chardonnay. It's still available at our local market. We tried it last night and I intend to go back and purchase a few more bottles.

Most chardonnay wines are too "buttery" for me. The mouthfeel is often more thick than silky. Many are too sweet. This one had a very good balance between a silky mouthfeel and a crisp taste. We usually choose other whites for hot summer nights, but this would be a good candidate. Really well done.

I'm giving this a 5 star for taste vs. price value ratio.

Grab some

I have liked most of the chards from CH that I've tried, but I think this one is at least one of my favorites. Had to give this a 5 for overall taste and price. I'm sure you can find better chards, but I'm sure you'd be paying a lot more too.

Amazing taste and price. Purchased six bottles; then went back for six more. Great value.

What a great chardonnay. It is rich, with some--but not too much--butteriness and butterscotch, but also fruity and some acid to balance the richness. Great cold, but really opens up with time and as it warms up. Compared to excellent French and California chardonnay, this is right up there...at an amazing price. I bought just a few bottles, but am buying more. You cannot go wrong here.
