Lot 313, a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Carignane, is an exercise in gorgeously fruited, yet well structured wine that is a good reflection of the dirt from which it hails. This wine is the best of the old-world and the new, the classic and the updated…Purity of essence if you will.
Ah, the 313!
Hailing from Detroit, the number 313 has a special place in my heart and I'm glad the 313 was an excellent blend. This benefitted greatly from a little breathing room, but otherwise worked well paired with dark chocolate.
Semi-translucent ruddy garnet. Jammy strawberry, cola, and earth nose. Medium bodied, raspberries, pepper, bing cherries, a few grainy tannins, low acid that disappeared by day 3, and a slightly sweet medium length finish.
Great wine, great price.
Great wine for the price. We really enjoyed this wine and would have purchased it again if it were still available.
I really liked this blend and was sorry to see it sold out after my initial order. It is "jammy" like you would expect a good Zin to be, but also has the body and finish of a Cab. Very interesting and fun wine.
I'm not a big fan of Zin, but thought I'd give this a try based on the other components. Surprisingly good after a 30 minute decant. Right out of the bottle it is a little harsh (from the carignane?), but that after-taste disappears quickly and you get a good full bodied fruity wine that drinks well and has structure. Good value for a weeknight glass of wine.
