Lot 272 2009 Rioja “Vendimmia Seleccionada” (Vintage Selection) is a great place to pick back up where we left off with our French releases earlier this year. 100% Tempranillo grown on terraces up off the plains of Rioja, the Vintage Selection moniker denotes the better terroir from which this wine hails. Produced in a modern style that seeks to balance authenticity with accessibility, Lot 272 seamlessly combines the earthy qualities of old school Rioja with the faceted fruit of modern viticulture and deftly deployed oak. And yes, while this is a Rioja even a Napa Cabernet lover will enjoy, it is not to be mistaken with the over-ripe, over-oaked Spanish wines that are now attacking our borders.

Nothing wrong with this wine. For 100% Tempranillo, I was very surprised by the acid and sugar components in the wine. Typically a blending wine, often with Garnacha or Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine stands on its own and is a phenomenal value at $12. Food not required with this wine...drink it while watching a movie. Really, really, nice!

Super smooth, very fruity, goes down incredibly easy. I finished a bottle of this and didn't even realize I'd gone through the entire thing. Perfect wine to have as a go-to.

This is just as Cameron says. It actually has very good structure, but the fruit is there. Excellent acid to balance the fruit. Nice spiciness and a little more robust than many riojas. This really is just as described in the video. Although lighter than a cab or syrah, this still stands up to meat. Could go with almost anything. Ready to go right out of the bottle, but opens up after an hour. At this price it really is a great value. When on sale, it's a steal! Seriously.

This was a nicely spiced wine, and given that it was only $12 - something that you could open up during the week without any guilt. Also - I feel like wines from Spain are in-style, it would make an easy hosting gift.
