With a few of the other wines that we have been releasing recently, this wine came from the recently closed Havens Wine Cellars. Havens Winery, located just south of Yountville, was a short, quiet drive off Highway 29, Napa Valley's main winery tour route. Havens had earned distinction for its Merlot, Syrah, and other red blends before being sold off due to the demise of distributor Billington Imports.
This wine in particular was one of their most notable productions. The Cabernet and Syrah grapes were co-fermented in top-of-the-line equipment to create what was known as Havens 'Black and Blue.' With 50% Cabernet and 50% Syrah, this wine is one of the most interesting and structured blends that we've seen from Havens.
