It’s always good to be reminded of why certain regions are ideal for growing certain grapes. Lot 909 2022 Oregon Pinot Noir offers a definitive reminder for why Pinot Noir is like the horse to Willamatte Valley’s carriage (they go together like a—you know the song). The dynamic source winery for this Pinot also blended in grapes from the Applegate and Illinois Valleys in Southern Oregon. And that, dear friends, is the secret sauce to this bright, irresistible, Pinot Noir.
 
Named for the Illinois River, the Illinois Valley, is home to the oldest vineyard in southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley AVA, and its high-elevation sandy, silty, gravely soils rife with ancient glacial deposits give vines a struggle for life, which, in this case, translates to elegance. Meanwhile, grapes growing in Applegate Valley—a high-elevation, stunning mountainous region—benefit from warm days and cold nights and contribute a plush, juicy quality to Lot 909.

To top it all off, the 2022 growing season was lauded as one of the best in recent years—low-yielding, cool until the end of harvest when it warmed up. The wines are perfumed and balanced by Oregon’s hallmark zippy natural acidity. Lot 909 embodies all that and more, clocking in at just 13% alcohol. Once you get past the heady bouquet of red cherry, clove, and high-toned conifer notes, its medium-bodied, juicy, and red-fruit-driven palate is intertwined with rich baking spice notes. It’s so delectable that we find ourselves thinking of a favorite old potato chip slogan, "Betcha can’t eat just one!” In the case of Lot 909, that would be “Betcha can’t drink just one bottle!” We tried and, happily, failed.
