EXCEPTIONAL WINE, EXTRAORDINARY VALUE     Dear Friends, A $50 Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blend for $15. Sound intriguing? Simply put, this is one of the best whites we have ever released. As you’re probably familiar, the “Meritage” wine title is used by winemakers outside France to indicate a red or white Bordeaux blend without infringing on the region’s official designation of origin. As for today’s release, it would fit right in at the family table next to its Bordelaise cousins.  Lot 478 2014 Sonoma County White Meritage is a blend of 79% Knights Valley Sauvignon Blanc and 21% Alexander Valley Old Vine Semillon from high elevation vineyard fruit, produced by a very famous consulting winemaker and aged in French barrels for 14 months.  It’s gorgeous wine, and a terrific follow-up to those of you who liked Lot 437. How did we get our hands on it? The actual brand owner was mum on the topic but, judging from the fact they are still selling 2012, I suspect they’re simply backed up on inventory. Today’s release is the same wine they’ll bottle for $50. Lot 478 2014 Sonoma County White Meritage Vintage: 2014 Appellation: Sonoma County Grape: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Cost: $15   BUY NOW   Gorgeous aromatics right out of the glass, with notes of white flower, citrus, mango, and papaya. On the palate, a mingling of grapefruit, orange zest, and other citrus flavors lay in the fore. Maybe the best non-Chardonnay white wine we’re ever released. This is a wine with length and viscosity, and definitely has some aging capability here. The time in barrel has given it structure and time to mellow out the acidity. Only 300 cases are available, so act fast!
