We present to you today Lot 896, 2020 Stags Leap Cabernet. Yes. Really.

Before we get into the incredible story of this wine, note that this release is limited. We got all we could get our hands on. The cost from the producer is well over $100/bottle up to $250/bottle. To you $39/bottle.

Now the story. This extraordinary Stags Leap Cabernet comes from a storied vineyard blessed with western exposure, located at the top of a northeastern knoll, surrounded by gravelly loam soils on the east side of the Silverado Trail. Next door neighbors include Shafer Vineyards, Odette Estate, and Stags Leap Winery. Definitely good company.

Now, if you’re familiar with the 2020 Napa vintage, you are aware of the unfortunate wildfires that took out a large number of vineyards and wineries in the Napa Valley, and significantly impacted harvest – most especially Cabernet. Despite the great loss, the fruit left behind was shockingly exceptional to the point of wonder – does impossible struggle build even better character? The simple answer is yes. This Cab is a true wonder to be shared with stories of survival and redemption.

Lot 896  has a magnificent dark fruit and an earthy nose, with hints of graphite and exotic spice, leading to a cornucopia of blackberry, ripe plum, star anise, and fine-grain leather wrapped in a silky texture inside a medium-full body. The juicy tannins and refined integration of layers show that this Cabernet was barrel aged beautifully at a distinct purveyor.
