Dear Friends,

I titled this email Yin and Yang because these wines, while hailing from storied regions of France, are worlds apart in terms of style and direction. The St-Émilion from Bordeaux is oaky, floral, and structured with spicy fruit, earth and mineral in equal proportion while the Côtes du Rhône is juicy, rich, and jammy with a ripe beam of raspberry kirsch that fruit bomb lovers will delight in. For those of you who like the mountain fruit wines of Napa Valley or have a known appreciation of Bordeaux, I believe Lot 366 will have tremendous appeal (especially when you see the price). Think structure. If you like the big, bold California reds like Zinfandel and Syrah (or were fans of LOT 244 FIELD BLEND or GSM Blends 241/251), or the plumper style of Napa Cab, then I think the Lot 352 CDR is up your alley. To make these easier for you to try, I am offering a 15% discount on any 1 case purchase - mix and match the whole store, as long as your case contains at least one of the above bottles.

After tasting through literally hundreds of Bordeaux wines, I decided that Lot 366 2010 St-Émilion was simply the best bang for the buck. Even with thousands of producers, finding value in Bordeaux is difficult enough in a regular vintage, but after two extremely hyped vintages (2009 and 2010) and the Chinese buyers on a tear, finding a great deal was a needle in the haystack. Lot 366 is sourced directly from a 25 acre Chateau in the St-Émilion region of Bordeaux. The soils are classic right bank gravel and silica and the wines are handled traditionally, but in a very modern facility and raised in barrel for 14 months (20% new) before bottling. Dark berry and spicy fruit with leather and savory notes from the Cabernet Franc. Plenty of minerality on the nose and palate, with hints of forest floor, smoky oak and dark chocolate. Retails for over 20 Euros in Europe where it’s sold direct, so it would be between $30 and $40 here in US – a steal at $14.

Lot 352 2011 Côtes du Rhône (see rave customer reviews here) is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah, and offers up a ripe nose of sweet kirsch liquer, peppercorn and fruit jam. The wine is texturally lush with cherry, sweet raspberry and plum flavors interlocked with black pepper and tapenade to finish. The wine has great purity and freshness, deep fruit and a long finish…you’ll love the big fruit impact! I think you just found your new house red folks – a steal at $12.

Again, these two wines are an absolute steal at $14 and $12 a bottle (and an even bigger steal considering the 15% off 1 case purchase and the freedom to mix and match)!
