Dear Friend,

I am very excited by today's release not only because it’s a dynamite wine, but because it’s the first of a series of wines produced in collaboration with one of Napa Valley’s premier grape growing families. They own and farm thousands of Napa Valley’s best dirt, but have only a small brand of their own. We have thousands of customers, but not one acre of grapes. It's a match made in Heaven. Through our partnership we will be producing wines from some of Napa Valley’s best fruit sources in Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena, Carneros, Yountville, Calistoga and more - pretty much the length of Napa Valley. The great thing about this deal is that it preserves our model of offering great wines at great prices – they bring the grapes and the winery, we bring the barrels and the customers. Rock-n-Roll Baby!

I think today’s release is particularly exciting since we haven’t released a Merlot in some time. The reason behind it being that so much of the Merlot we were able to secure after the whopper 2005 harvest was subsequently grafted over to other varietals as Merlot began to level off and Pinot Noir became more popular. Our whole office is thrilled about Lot 344 2010 Oakville Merlot to the point of internecine warfare as our two sales teams battle over their allocations!

This is a fantastic Oakville Merlot sourced, again, from the heart of Oakville and with plenty of structure and stuffing for Cabernet lovers. With just 2 months in the bottle this wine has already won Gold at the San Francisco International Wine Competition. The aromatics soar out of the glass with high-toned red and black fruits, white flowers and spice notes. On the palate pure red fruit is revealed with lush texture and tremendous breadth. Definitely worth a decant and definitely cellar worthy over the next 2-6 years. Fantastic juice and an incredible deal at $16. Compare at $35-$45 for comparable bottlings out of this vineyard.

As always, if you have any questions regarding this release, any of our other wines, or just general wine questions, please don't hesitate to call us at 1-800-805-1971or email us. We are always happy to hear from you.
