The region is abundant with very old vines, with some dating all the way back to the late 1800s. It also happens to be the childhood home of Robert Mondavi (and where he later built his Woodbridge winery). I imagine by now you have heard me praise the terrific 2012 vintage quite a bit, so I won’t dwell on that as it pertains to our Lot 464 2012 Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel, other than to say that 2012 is probably our best Lodi Zin to date – great hang time in a picture perfect vintage. As a continuation of our ongoing Lodi partnership, no expense was spared in this attempt to bring you a lush, rich Zinfandel experience. The wine began dense and concentrated, and benefitted from 10 months in both French and American oak. The end result is a wine that is darkly hued and beautifully aromatic – a fine example of how Lodi has really found its place in the top tier over the past decade. Lot 464 2012 Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel Vintage: 2012 Appellation: Lodi, California Grape: Zinfandel 100% Alcohol by volume: 13.9% Cost: $13 This is definitely the most lush, inviting Zin we’ve produced in many years. Dark berries on the nose, with hints of chocolate, incense smoke, and tantalizing of spice aromas to boot. The palate delivers beautifully, with flavors of dark fruit, toasty spice, and a touch of licorice. Chocolate bass notes complete the package. Clearly a lot of new oak on this wine, but beautifully integrated. A warm, inviting wine that you’ll enjoy glass after glass, bottle after bottle.
