Dear Friend,

The string of fantastic Pinot Noirs continues today with the first of two releases from Santa Maria Valley in California’s Central Coast. Last year, we purchased the 2008 and 2009 versions of this Pinot, both sourced from a famous Santa Maria vineyard. Lot 268 Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir is aged in 50% new French oak. This is an ultra-premium Pinot that showcases the best fruit in cool-climate Santa Maria and is about as close to Burgundy as you can get in California – the fruit profile of our Lot 294, Sauvigny les Beaune echoes throughout this wine.

Aromatic cherries jubilee mixes with scents of forest-floor, exotic spices, and hints of pine needles. Across the palate, the wine is broad-shouldered with persistent and pure Pinot fruit punching through the ample structure. It's deftly balanced and long with an easy decade ageing potential. My own personal view is that this is our best Pinot, but I think if you like the richer style of Russian River Valley, a case can be made for the sucosité of Lot 286 2010 Russian River Valley.

Lot 268 2008 Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir was purchased in barrel and it reflects the entire program (a little less than 500 cases). Given the terrific provenance, previous pricing in the $45-$50 per bottle range, and the meticulous winemaking in evidence here, this is an absolutely screaming deal at $15.

As always, if you have any questions regarding this release, any of our other wines, or just general wine questions, please don't hesitate to call us at 1-800-805-1971 or email us. We are always happy to hear from you.

Cheers!
