Dear Friends,
More and more often I think to myself, “Lake County is the nexus of quality and value for a lot of California varietals." Certainly that has been true for Sauvignon Blanc for many years, but I also think that Riesling ranks right up there as well (Cabernet Sauvignon, too, but that’s another story for another day).
First and foremost, today’s releases are perfect Spring wines. They are a continuation of a program we have been running for a few years now with a Lake County grower who thought that selling his high-quality fruit to larger companies (who just back-blended it into more innocuous cuvées and still paid him the same price as the lower quality fruit) was, ahem, “problematic." Of course, after winemaker Sam saw the dirt, we were convinced to partner up with this gentleman to bring you some fantastic Lake County Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. Here’s the scoop…
Lot 346 2011 Lake County Sauvignon Blanc is a delicious continuation of this successful program. Pristine aromas of lime blossom and lemon curd mix with mango to create a complex and compelling nose. The palate starts round and fruity, with mandarin orange making its way to a crisper finish of grapefruit and lime zest. A deliciously refreshing and pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc.

Lot 347 2011 Lake County Riesling is all honeysuckle and melon on the nose. Across the palate, orange sherbet and sassafras notes are counterbalanced with zesty minerality, providing a perfect balance of fruit and mineral notes. This sweet Riesling is a perfect poolside and party wine, and also makes for a delightful Easter AM treat.
