Wine Details

Aromas of intense black cherry fruit and purple flowers with hints of wet, red clay all backed by a peppery meatiness. Super fresh on the palate with peppery black cherry/blackberry fruit, haloed by wet clay and purple florals in a long clean finish. For all of its delicate and nuanced expression, this is a fairly dark and powerful wine with a perfect balance of ripe fruit and freshness that will age beautifully over the next 5 to 7 years.

This is a true regional classic and a terrific introduction to Saumur Champigny, the home of the Cabernet Franc grape and the heart of the Loire Valley. Intense and lively, the Le Petit Saint Vincent “Pelo” cuvee is the signature wine of Dominique Joseph (not to mention his nickname). Produced from 50+ year old vines on clay-limestone tuffeau and primarily fermented in concrete (with about 10% seeing 12 months in large format barrels), it’s a dark wine and beautifully aromatic.

Cabernet franc is the red-headed stepchild of Bordeaux, but the primary red grape of the Loire. This is the best I remember tasting. At less than two years old, it is still easily approachable. Intense, deep, full-on Bing cherry. Really opened up nicely in the glass. Glad I nabbed a case when I could.

This taste much different than what I tend to get from California. I really liked it though!!! Far more delicate and much more peppery.
