We found a Napa partner who reigns supreme in the farming and growing of Sauvignon Blanc, and I’m proud to offer our second vintage to you today.
Our Hughes Wellman 2012 Napa Sauvignon Blanc is a stunning wine with the same sourcing as our 2011 release, but in a better vintage. This wine comes from the southeastern hills of Napa Valley in a vineyard that resides on ancient, weathered, alluvial fans of silty soils that contribute an intense brightness and mineral austerity. The fruit for this wine was harvested by hand and meticulously hand-sorted. Like the 2011, the juice was cold fermented in 65% stainless steel tanks, 28% French oak barrels, and 7% concrete eggs, and underwent careful battonage to give the wine just the right consistency and texture.
We have enjoyed it
The 2012 is a really good SB.Since we got it on sale it is a good value as well.I would buy it again if more was available.
Well worth the money
I was a little reluctant to pay $24 for a California SB -- simply because you can buy some pretty darn good ones from New Zealand for a whole lot less. Now that said, I took a chance and bought 6 of these guys and am not one bit sorry. This is a really good wine. It has the melony, floral smell and taste that one would expect of a good Sauvignon Blanc, but in addition has a rich full bodied flavor (Cam calls it Bee's Wax) that is more like a good Chardonnay to me. I really like this wine and will certainly share it with some of my more "white wine snotty" friends who I know will go ga ga over it.
SB doesn't get any better than this . . .
I was bowled over by the 2011 offering and was notably impressed to find the 2012 even better. I tend to find even more expensive SB's rather simple and unremarkable with little more to report than "crisp" or "refreshing". The Hughes Wellman SB is so rich and complex, I imagine the divine food-pairings are endless. I can't help but order more whenever I can.
It's a little hard calling a $24 SB a "great" value, but it's a perfect way to treat yourself with a special white. When it goes on sale, definitely stock up.
