Wine Details

A Grenache dominated blend at 70%, the Les Sablieres begins to feel a bit more “Northern Rhône” with an intense meaty, peppery nose; however, the lavender garrigue and raspberry that personify the Southern Rhône are there as well. There in spades, in fact, with a wonderful raspberry/pepper tension on the palate that supports and carries the richer fruit impact beautifully.

Cam Confidential

Domaine des Escaraveilles is located just north of Domaine Xavier in the village of Rasteau and their Les Sablieres bottling is a remarkably sophisticated wine for this price. Sourced from 40 to 50-year-old Grenache and 35 to 40-year-old Syrah vines planted in sandy clay and limestone soils over river rock, the vineyards are predominantly on the Rasteau estate with the rest coming from estate parcels just next door in Cairanne. Vinified separately in concrete tanks, Les Sablieres is a very intense and pure expression of the Rhône Valley.

At 70% grenache, this is indeed a meaty wine. Jammy nose, smooth tannins. A nice Rhone, and a steal at the price, but not complex enough to earn that fifth star. If it comes back in stock, this is the foot soldier wine you need to bulk up your cellar.

Granache dominant blend produces a bold wine with rich fruits and structure thanks to the Syrah. Light tannins and acidity makes this wine perfect for a big meal. Smooth finish, only wish I had purchased more!

Tons of great fruit on the palate with this one. Black cherries, rasberries, and other dark fruit notes make this a fun drink!
