Winemaker Francis Boudin is one of Chablis’ true artisanal ranks. Making Chablis without any oak influence ("Barrel-free Chablis”) has been a mantra of the Boudin clan for at least three generations, guiding them to translate the purity of Chardonnay from the vineyard directly into the bottle. In keeping with their natural philosophy, the Boudins did not replant their Chardonnay vines with high-yielding clones, as was the fad in the 1970s in Chablis. As a result, their older vines are naturally low yielding, allowing fruit to better express its terroir.
This wine is grown from a blend of several estate-owned vineyards, planted to original rootstock near the village of La Chapelle Vaupelteigne, due west of premier cru ‘Fourchaume.’ Soils are chalky and stony, textbook Chablis terroir. Grapes are hand-harvested from 25-30 year old vines and pressed full cluster and fermented on indigenous yeasts. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
2nd bottle, that was what I expected!
Excellent Chablis, as advertised. Hopefully the rest I bought are the same. Lively acidity, streak of minerality, touch of lemon and a long tropical finish.
Bottle was definitely corked (TCA)
I bought 6 bottles and tried the 1st one last night. Very disappointing. It was corked. Has anyone else experienced this? I’ll update after I try a 2nd bottle.
Cameron, please get more of this!
Loved this wine! It alone has moved me to try more French Chablis. It has a nice citrus nose and taste, not grapefruit, but enhanced by a mineral, stony sense in the mouth that extends well into the finish. It makes one want to have another sip. My order was too conservative on quantity.
Only wish I had bought more. An excellent wine. Memorable
Great to drink now, or hold.
This charming Chablis comes off with a limestone basis, but it carries a long, medium fruit finish. Too bad it's sold out!
A good find!
We are normally Chardonnay fans but this Chablis was terrific for a delightful change of pace. Well rounded wine good for sipping as well as with food.
