Dark, deeply ruby core showing a youthful color and we can expect lots of aging potential. Fresh and intense fruit on the nose with sour cherry, red and black currant, and a little spearmint/eucalyptus note. There is a real complexity with layers of flavor coming through. The structure of this wine is voluptuous with fruit flavors really coming through and a bit of acid balancing the whole thing out. You get some spice notes on the finish. It’s delicious now, but when Carignan is done this well it can really age for at least another five years with the nuances really unwinding over time and unveiling even more flavor. This is a great pairing for striploin, lamb with mint jelly, or anything bacon wrapped is really going to delight with this wine.

CHW Confidential
Sourced from five different sites around Alexander Valley in Sonoma, Carignan is not a grape that is widely planted outside of France. It’s even more rare to find Carignan as a single varietal bottling since it’s typically used as a blending competent. It’s definitely a wine bottle that wine lovers can geek out over.
