Taste: The hillside vineyards of this appellation produce very intense wines as a result of the highly stressed environment they live in. These vineyards produce amazingly intense-yet-elegant Syrahs, similar to the best of the Côte Rôtie. The key can be found in the cool evenings and the slow warming on the east side of the mountain. The afternoon sun produces the rich, concentrated flavors of plum and blackberry while the cool nights and mornings provide structure and delicate blueberry and lavender nuances. Enjoy near-term or age with confidence up to 10 years.
Cameron Confidential: Lot 106 2006 Sonoma Mountain Syrah is the baby brother to Lot 105, having skipped the 2005 vintage. Why this producer sold us one vintage and held on to the rest is anybody's guess. This wine is a mirror image of the 2004, just younger. We have about 1,000 cases, so it will probably go to California Costcos as well.
