Hughes Wellman was launched with our 2005 vintage in 2009. The idea of the wine was to produce a grapes to glass Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that highlighted our winemaking capability. Little did we think that this wine, produced in extremely small lots would garner more than 15 gold medals, multiple double golds, platinum medals along with consistent 92+ scores. The small project launched in 2005 has now released a total of four vintages including 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and this year, in 2013, 2009. Initially a passion project and a celebration of more than 45 years of friendship between my dad and his fraternity brother Sandy Wellman and his son Colin Wellman, our Hughes Wellman label has become our relentless pursuit to produce wines that are inspired by the arc of life - unexpected, determined, unflappable.
