Wine Details
Leaps from the glass with incredibly pure and piercing aromas of cassis, plum and blackberry with coffee bean and mocha bass notes. As the wine evolves in the glass, loamy volcanic soils and graphite mingle beautifully with the fruit. Effortless across the palate, it offers waves of blackberry and mocha pleasure in a perfectly framed and persistent package that finishes with pure fruit and mineral notes. Drinks well now with plenty of air, and will age beautifully over the next 15-20 years. The 60% new French oak is as integrated as you can get. A stunning and sophisticated wine.

The Hughes Wellman Cabernet Sauvignon is our flagship offering here at Cameron Hughes wine. Born of the Hughes and Wellman clans, it celebrates many decades of friendship. Our flagship 2009 Hughes Wellman Cabernet Sauvignon is a drop-dead gorgeous example of volcanic, hillside Napa Valley Cabernet. Fruit is sourced primarily from Stagecoach Vineyard, which is grandly constructed from massive red volcanic intrusions high atop Atlas Peak where the elevation (1100-1500ft) offers exposure to cool coastal influence across the western Mayacamas. The red Hambright soils are extremely well-drained and ideal for Cabernet. Smaller pieces come from the Palisades Vineyards, which are located at the outflow of Horns Creek in Calistoga and, like Araujo Estate just one Canyon over, have fantastically deep Spartina Gravel soils. Both are located on the east side of the Napa Valley with western and southwestern exposures, and represent the best that the Napa Valley has to offer in terms of exposure and location.
